Blog Guide

Well, I guess you are wondering what this blog is all about…?

Put simply, it’s a collection of words and pictures from my life, past and present.

UNCLE SPIKE – Just a page of blurb about me.

BLOG GUIDE – Err… you’re already here on this page 🙂

MY VIEW ON LIFE

Opinion – bits on all sorts of subjects that make me tick
Daft Spike – I’m not as ‘growed-up’ as my numbers would suggest
Philosophy – thoughts from the ‘inner Spike’
Tunes I Love – music that has been my guiding light over the years

ON BLOGGING

Trophies – posts I’ve written about my blog
About Blogging – thoughts and comments about blogging
Reblogs – occasional posts from other blogs that are right up my street

MY WRITING

Guest Writing – my occasional adventures into writing on other blogs.
True Tales
 – true stories to read with a mug of cocoa
Non Humans – mostly on pooches and chooks
Spike Jnr – our bilingual smartarse lovable nerd
Daily Life – stuff as it happens

GUEST POSTS
For a while I had fellow bloggers pop along to share their world as a guest blogger. Although not a regular feature, if you fancy being on Uncle Spike’s Adventures, email me at uncle.spikes.adventures1@gmail.com

BLOGGERS UNITE FOR PEACE  (#BloggersUniteForPeace)
We live in a time when little can be taken for granted in terms of our peace and security. Here in Türkiye, we are constantly reminded of that fact, with hostile forces forever closer to our borders, as well as within.

These posts are either of my own volition, or a collective effort by normal, everyday hard-working bloggers who just want peace in the world. We hail from across the continents, speak different languages, of varying ages, professions, and religious and cultural backgrounds.

GLOBAL TRAVELS
Posts related to my travel adventures over 35 years. I have seen many places in this world, either as an aimlessly wandering globetrotter, or just doing the ‘holiday’ thing for 1-2 months a year.

PHOTOGRAPHY
I enjoy photography – although very much as an amateur hobbyist. For almost three years, I entered images for the WordPress photo challengesWordless Wednesday, Macro Monday, Flower Friday and other similar ventures.

RURAL LIFE
These are posts related to my escapades as a farmerbuildergardener, and home kitchen chef. Over the years my life in rural Türkiye has provided me with a collection of mildly noteworthy calamities and triumphs.

AWARDS – my views on why I prefer to be an ‘Award Free’ blogger.

  1. Hiya, Uncle Spike – Interested to find you live in Turkey as I live in Turkish-Cyprus, a really lovely, friendly, unspoiled part of the planet. We don’t get summers quite as hot as you – mainly 35-39C in the summer, no rain (great!), but our winters can be nippy. If we’re lucky we get rain Dec-Feb/March but the rainfall was pretty pitiful last winter. We moved here from Australia to be closer to family in the UK and to get away from the hugely expensive, Little America place that Oz has become. We love it here – the people are friendly, hospitable, laid-back, tolerant. Great place to live. Glad you’ve having a good time in Turkey. Cheers, Mo

Yes similar in many ways. Certainly cheaper compared to more developed countries, but on the other hand, unless one has an overseas income, our salaries can make it seem hard work here (e.g. fuel costs, airfare etc)

I love visiting here!! Pity I don’t have enough time to get fully acquainted. Maybe as the long winter’s nights draw in there will be more opportunity to call around and share a silent few minutes… and raise a glass of good read while I’m reading!

  8. […] Uncle Spike as he is known online, is a man of many trades; currently, he is living in turquoise Turkey working as a fruit farmer and proof-reader for academic articles. His anecdotes, photography, and stories caught my attention from the beginning. I started following Uncle Spike shortly after starting Turquoise Compass. As an extensive traveller (he has traveled for 35 years!), a turquoise lover, and someone who lives life to the fullest, there is no wonder how we found each other in this fabulous travel blogging community. 18. You write in a very genuine way….Although your photos are beautiful as well, your writing in all of your posts gives me even better picture of the reality than the photo itself. You seem like finding a balance in your life after all you went through….which is probably the exact right way of how we should develop ourselves…

I am drinking a coffee now and in a combination with your blog….I must say that I thank you for making a lovely Saturday afternoon for me:)

    Keep blogging!!!

I like your attitude, your personality, You have seen places and things that I will never see so reading about your adventures from a person who is down to earth and honest can make for a good read. I spent 30 years as a long haul truck driver here in the states and Canada but that’s it, no other countries. I know this country very well but the rest of the world I learn from reading and watching. Thank you for taking the time to do this blog.

Looking forward to reading more of your blog.

We traveled to Turkey earlier this year – we stayed in a stunning little boutique hotel in Fethiye. The views were amazing from midway in the mountains – we’ll be blogging about it soon! It will be interesting to read about what it is like to live in Turkey!

I just happened to discover you this morning and since I am all about Incredible India, I read this post. We loved, loved the trains but not the stations, especially in Delhi, and we found that planes and trains are pretty punctual. That surprised us. We did criss cross north and south and east and west…..Loved it and we never did first class….2nd and 3rd class! Namaste. . . .

      c) honoured, thanks again

You never know what folks like or not when you start out doing something like this, but I just tend to write whatever I feel I want to offload, similar to someone writing a diary or perhaps their memoirs. It all makes sense to me anyhow, lol, but really pleased you enjoy it too.
