Throwback Thursday: Our Village

For Throwback Thursday this week, here’s a post from February 2014, which was the first in a series of three about our rural farming village here in the Western Taurus mountains of southwest Türkiye.

When it rains here, it pours… with mountains all around us, the village has to be able to cope with all that water. During a storm, this just about does the job. Except for last winter when it was right across the road as well!

With pine forests the order of the day, bee hives are a regular sight wherever there is a patch of space. Makes lovely honey though – get ours from the farm next door 🙂

Traffic cones, traffic lights, contraflows… all of these are non-existent in rural turkey. If you are lucky a few rocks, bricks and a bit of rope, or even a small branch stuck in the hole is all you’ll get as ‘warning’. Makes driving in the dark fun 🙂

The final resting place – not for a while I hope.

  1. The mosque looks very white, clean, and modern, contrasting strikingly with the surroundings. It certainly stands out and draws the eye to it.

Maybe an old clunker is the best, considering the roads. Great shots.
