Got no permission?

I passed this hotel back in the late summer.

All was not what it seemed….

I wondered – Where were the towels hanging over balconies, folk watching the morning pass by, and general signs of tourist life?

On the west coast of Türkiye, it commands quite a view overlooking the Med.

The lawns were green (rare here with our summers), and the gardens tended.

But on closer inspection, the whole place was practically deserted. There was no ‘name board’ outside, and there were no guests, no waiters; even the pool was empty, the doors closed, the music silent…, the kids nowhere to be seen.

There were even flowers at ‘Reception’ – spotted through a broken window.

I later found out that it had been deserted almost from its build over a decade before. My guess is a lack of council approval, or some such bureaucratic wrangling. Quite strange though… whilst there was indeed repairs now overdue in places (e.g. paint peeling), there was certainly evidence of regular upkeep – better than many of the ‘open’ hotels.

I then spotted a few rooms – less than a handful – that seemed sort of occupied.

They were, I guess, used by a resident caretaker, who’s remit was probably to tend the gardens, and to ensure the place was kept secure. The rest of the time was spent soaking up the sun sat in the gardens.

And there he is 🙂

He takes his work seriously too… soon chasing me off the premises when caught snooping 🙂

  1. It is a shame that it is empty .. I’m sure there must be lots of people in need of this space. Fancy shooing you away!

  2. Such a curiosity. The care taker seems to have found the perfect job.

Don’t kid yourself–this is a secret spy base for suave international intelligence and espionage agents. Believe it. I know things.

How strange to see this prime building devoid of occupants! I wonder if the people who had it built will ever be able to untangle whatever red tape is choking them, and make use of it?
