Making the most of it

When the mountains are as rock strewn as we have here in the southwest of Türkiye, there is little one can do but just ‘get on with it’ and make the most of the resources there are at our disposal. One of our biggest headaches is always water, especially from our ferocious regular winter storms.
With so many rocks, soil erosion can be a serious issue in winter, just as the high porosity of the land, again due mostly to rocks, gives us headaches in the summer. So here’s how one area I know manages to farm olives on steep, and very rocky slopes!

I know how they feel; you just have to farm the land as it is – you can’t change or beat nature. I tried that one a few times, and failed just as many 🙂

A remarkable and impressive amount of effort went into that!!

I suppose it has happened over a long period of time! The stone walls to be found round here….Not so different…and a feature of the Cotswolds are being quietly filtered away! Perhaps found in structures in gardens and houses far and wide if you look close!

I remember them well. Similarly, although different stone/style, we had plenty of walls up in Yorkshire.

I remember seeing lots of these while cycling. I’m with Yvonne. What a huge amount of work!
