Camel Trekkin’

Thursday 10 September, 2015 by Uncle Spike

Camel trekking is a blast…. Never done it? Well, you’ve just found something that should be added to your ‘to do list’ or ‘bucket list’!

I’ve done a few, ranging from an informal one hour to three full days across desert, in countries including Tunisia, Kenya, India and Egypt. It’s perhaps not THE most comfortable form of travel, but once you get used it, and assuming are wearing the right garb, it’s an awesome (hate that word, but quite apt for this) experience and one of the best ways to see and really appreciate some, but not all, parts of the world (i.e. not that advisable around NYC).

  1. I did a short camel walk in Egypt many years ago – I did not enjoy it because my camel had a mind of its own and kept wandering off!

Have camel treked many times over the years. Always been terrified but then did it again anyway. First time was at Glen Helen Gorge in Australia. A half day of sheer terror accumulating in a swim in what was no doubt a crocodile infested river bed (it probably wasnt).

I always say I will never do it again and when the opportunity presents itself … I do it and I’m terrified LOL!

I agree Spike. I’ve done it and loved it.

  6. Yeah, not any around Chicago, either. 😉
