Weekly Photo Challenge: From Every Angle (I)
12Monday 31 August, 2015 by Uncle Spike
This week’s first entry from me for the Weekly Photo Challenge brings you three shots of just three of a number of trays of tomatoes I’ve just placed out in the late summer sun to dry. Experience has shown that we needs temps of 35C (95F) or above to do the job and ensure they don’t go mouldy, so no problem there! Sun-dried tomatoes; one of life’s little pleasures I think 🙂
Hope you enjoy this entry.

Gorgeous looking tomatoes. How long does it take them to dry and how to you keep the flies off them? I canned most of my tomatoes this year, but might try this next year. Thanks!

Takes about 7 days, but the day temps need to be above 35 and nights above 23 I’ve found, else they go mouldy. I sprinkle large crystal (1-2mm(-) rock salt on to cure them, so I guess the flies aren’t so keen.

Nice 🙂 For how many days do you dry the tomatoes and what do you use them in. I must try:) Here we dry banana slices and raw mangoes. Thanks.

1) just chew them; the taste is great as they soften up 🙂
2) place a few in a bowl of recently boiled water for 10 mins, then strain, add olive oil and seasoning, then serve as a side dish.
