Winter in Istanbul: More Bosphorus Views
5Saturday 22 August, 2015 by Uncle Spike
When it comes to views of Istanbul, even during the dreariness of winter, there are few which rival capturing the magnificence of the landmarks that crowd the banks of the Bosphorus. Here are a few more to add to the collection. Any personal favourites here?
Dolmabahçe Mosque
.
Dolmabahçe Palace
.
Or perhaps you prefer the dominant and colourful campus of…
Galatasaray University
.
Whilst not a landmark, there are some things that are almost permanent fixtures along the Bosphorus, such as…
Freight shipping heading to/from the Black Sea
Here’s one I posted about recently, the Maiden’s Tower, but did you know it also has a restaurant?
Maiden’s Tower

These last two shots I took featuring the Bosphorus are the most iconic for me. This first one was taken from atop the Galata Tower, and therefore is looking south, from Europe across to Asia.
Bosphorus – across the continents
.
This final shot was again taken from the Galata Tower, but this time looking to the west, across the Golden Horn towards the area of Sultanahmet and the Topkapı Palace. Just out of shot to the right is the Galata Bridge, over which you’d cross the Golden Horn to reach Sultanahmet.

It always throws me into a lather of indecision when someone says “Pick your favourite.” I like them all!
