Winter in Istanbul: Boats of Kadıköy
4Saturday 18 July, 2015 by Uncle Spike
Rain stops play? Nope; it’s only water, and everything dries out eventually, doesn’t it? Gloomy skies over Istanbul in winter certainly didn’t stop me getting out and about – life of a farmer on city tour 🙂
.
.
I love the Istanbul ferries. Big, tough, noisy, but efficient, ferrying (literally) folk to and from the various points on both sides of the Bosphorus – from one continent to the other (again, literally)!
.
.
No matter which route you take, the scenery is always there to be taken in.
.
.
At Kadıköy, here on the Asian side of Istanbul, there are more than just ferries to be seen, with all sorts of commercial tug, fishing and cargo vessels moored alongside.
.
.
Or how about these strange beasts? These environmental workhorses patrol the waterways, scooping up rubbish using a conveyor belt system. Ingenious.
.
.
.
If ya pays the money, ya might as well haves the funs!

Rain stops play!!! Well it sure caused havoc at St.Andrews for the British Open.
It is quite fascinating that this stretch of water separates two continents and also
the history attached to this stretch of water.
Australia has been hit with a winter blast of freezing weather from the South Pole.
Much more severe than usual – snow falls right up and in southern Qld!!!
Melbourne had its coldest day for 100 years last week.
However the skiing fraternity on the southern alpine mountains are in
snow sport heaven.
Cheers
Colin who is rugged up to the hilt – I look like a sherpa about to scale
Mt.Everest!
