Winter in Istanbul: Streets & Buildings

Sunday 28 June, 2015 by Uncle Spike

Mid winter, and we found ourselves in Istanbul for a few days this year.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be selecting a few images of general life and scenery each weekend to share with you. There are hundreds of blogs out there already with all the main tourist attractions very well covered, so mine will mostly be non-touristy stuff; showing you around and about a couple of areas from both the European and Asian continents that this great city straddles.

These are street scenes from Moda, a residential area on the Asian shores of the Bosphorus. It’s seems quite old, and certainly has some interesting buildings.

The residential streets are pretty nice too – but I reckon these are costly places to buy an apartment, this close to the Bosphorus.

Quite different feel to say Galata, an area also very close to the shores of the Bosphorus, but on the northern, and therefore, European side.

Having just had such a great experience on the Turquoise Coast, Istanbul is at the top of our “must visit” list. Look forward to seeing your future posts.

I enjoy your pictures of the “non-touristy stuff” that give us a chance to see the locals in their everyday lives.

How are things in Turkey right now, any fall out from the Greek crisis?
