With everything so late this year, we are even ‘waiting’ for the tomatoes, whereas we are normally scoffing them freshly picked every day by now. However, finally we have seen some action…

The large pink tomatoes are growing well, and so far have remained disease free. It’s early days I know, but still hopeful we’ll produce something edible in due course. Knowing my luck, it’ll suddenly rocket in temperature and roast the plants where they stand – with such porous soil, once the heat rises it’s nigh on impossible to keep them sufficiently watered.   4. Hey Spike .. some of that hay of yours would make a great mulch. Would save some of that valuable moisture of yours. Those plants sure are looking healthy.

      Might try some – but it’s so hot and dry, not a lot will save the water. The other issue with mulching in these temps is that the humidity that rises up and causes mildew-type problems I’ve found. The other pain is the sees in the hay start growing, lol. Last winter the compost I used for the peas in the greenhouse took over – barley growing everywhere!
