Heart of Gold

Back in the early 80s a certain Mr Young, his guitar, unique recognisable voice, and of course the harmonica was the key to my sanity as I traveled the rather rocky road of teenagehood. Looking back, this song stands out in terms of the music, the lyrics and the general vibe. One of the classics in my book and well deserved to be included in those Tunes I Love.

“Heart Of Gold”
I want to live,
I want to give
I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold.
It’s these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching for a heart of gold.
And I’m getting old.
Keep me searching for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old.
I’ve been to Hollywood
I’ve been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold.
I’ve been in my mind,
It’s such a fine line
That keeps me searching for a heart of gold.
And I’m getting old.
Keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old.
Keep me searching for a heart of gold.
You keep me searching and I’m growing old.
Keep me searching for a heart of gold
I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold.

Great song…such simple lyrics but complexed at the same time I guess that’s what makes his songs so intriguing…

I’m no lyricist, but I guess so – longevity is the proof I would say.

He may be getting old, as are we all, but his music and his message…timeless. ❤️

And, oh, how we thought we “knew” about living those lyrics. On the other hand, life really does go by in a nanosecond. Except it’s difficult to tell that but for retrospect. Good thing we’re eternal beings or I’d get depressed.
