Images of Naxos hinterland (2 of 2)

In the first of this two-parter about the Greek Cyclades island of Naxos, you’ll have seen a few general pics of the island. This time I have found a few more images, albeit a couple are somewhat offbeat in their nature, with weird objects in the frame – no idea what was going on there, must have been too much wind (weather, not dietary).

Ok, no weird objects this time, just a lovely old doorway.

And a church with a spectacular vantage point.

The central area of this rather large island is pretty mountainous, and was beautiful to drive through. The towns are few and far between, nestled in the hills as you can see here…

Wind turbines are the norm these days, especially on the islands.

But it’s the stunning white (and blue) Greek Orthodox churches and their graveyards that have the pride of place in each community.

The roads weren’t bad to drive; with lots of narrow twists and turns, just the way I like them 🙂 Having lived around such scenery for many years, I felt quite ‘at home’ to be honest.

Final view to share – how about this for an open face quarry?
That’s a pretty precarious position that digger is working at!
