Quince flowers

We’ve never had much luck growing quince in the ‘house garden’ of our farm, but most of our fruit trees in our personal orchard are fairly young, so perhaps this is our year…

Certainly the trees have a much higher number of flowers this season, and chances are some will produce fruit. We’ll have to see on that score, but for now at least we can enjoy the absolutely gorgeous blossom flowers they display.

Initially the buds are a soft dusty pink colour, which is matched by the soft pale green and slightly furry leaves of the quince tree.

Then they open into soft white five-petaled flowers, but with a pink tinge.

As the flowers mature, they become whiter.

In the end they are similar to the blossom of the plum tree.

  6. Hey Spike,
Had a quince tree in our side yard in Toms River, New Jersey when I was a kid. Thing was covered in uh, green colored quinces? And wicked thorns, too!
Do you do anything in particular with the fruit?

  7. Lovely flowers. I especially like the delicate pink before they mature. Quinces are yummy when eaten straight from a sun-warmed bush. My mouth is now watering.
