First roses are out
25Tuesday 28 April, 2015 by Uncle Spike
As with everything in the garden, the rose are out that bit later this year, but nonetheless, they are worth waiting for. The volume and regularity of the winter rains has done wonders for the plants – fingers crossed for a good show this season! This is one of our four rosebeds, notwithstanding the various areas of ground roses, this shows the amount of blooms out so far. Incidentally, this bed is almost entirely stocked from cuttings 🙂

After some overnight rain, I thought I’d have a few minutes out there with the camera before the school run. The rain drops add a certain freshness, don’t you think?

These pink blooms are always the first ones out, and are the hardiest of the roses we keep – lovely fragrance too (note use of posh word).

The bright reds are next…

But my personal favourites are these deep maroon coloured roses.

Pretty roses. Does your varties have thorns? I hear that in Fla certain plants thrive better if the variety has thorns. Interesting how things work out that way.

Some do, some don’t…. None of ours are pure-bred anyway; just cuttings from cuttings etc

Hey Spike .. how good do they look? Just gorgeous after the rain. And that greenery looks so healthy too .. love that ‘posh’ word. LOL … Great shots!

Thanks Ms J. Yep, best year on record for us – amazing how a slight climate change alters the results.

Those look really lovely, healthy roses. My roses are looking good this year as I did manage to get in a spraying early in the year. No buds yet, but hoping for a good year, once this snow and hail stops!

It is a bit late this year, but not unheard of at this time. I never put my bedding plants out until the first of May. I bet there are some that did it earlier this year though as the weather was so good earlier.

Yep, racing the calendar now, as 35+ looms ever closer, and I need to do a crap load before then, as that’s when the watering system must be operational. Hey ho, as they say 🙂

Hope the cooler (relatively) weather lasts a bit longer for you then.
