The Fish Eagle
12Tuesday 24 March, 2015 by Uncle Spike
We have a lot of bird-life where we live, and the sounds never stop – something I’ll never tire of. But I also I love to see the larger birds in action when travelling, and whilst we get some eagles in the mountains, I remember a fabulous fish eagle that we came across in Kenya once…
.
.
We spotted him on the edge of a large lake, just perched there keeping an eye on business; waiting for his next dinner I guess. And here it was…
.
.
It was an incredible sight to see him in action, and then to see his with his catch!
.
.
This was his domain…
.
.
Oh, and here was ‘home’. I wondered if there was a Mrs Eagle around too, or perhaps kiddos too high up to go check it out.
.
.
Just one of those memories I wanted to share… courtesy of this small cafe whose internet I’m ‘borrowing’ whilst slowly drinking a soda 🙂

Handsome bird .. home looks way up!

Agree, we get smaller birds of prey here, and love to see them in action, apart from when they take chicks of course.

Stunning! I enjoyed the story and each photo…the last one with the sunlight streaming through the clouds is very good!

Would have loved a fancy camera for the catch scene. Just have to go back one day, eh?

Well I’m so glad you managed to share those fabulous photos. Was this on Lake Victoria by any chance? I went there once and saw hippos in the lake and deadly water snakes as well as a lot of water hyacinth which was causing big problems for the locals. Great memories ~ thanks for reminding me!

This was on Lake Baringo in the north (http://www.experiencekenya.co.ke/lakes.php#lakeBaringo). We went to LV too, but that’s a different story 🙂
