My Fertiliser Truck

Tuesday 17 March, 2015 by Uncle Spike

Following on from my car’s recent tractor-type duties with shifting the wood cut from the olive trees after this year’s pruning session, our ‘Ellie’ has been back in service yet again… as you can see below 🙂

This time is was to collect 400 kilos (880 lbs) of fertiliser!

I dunno how she does it, but these old Turkish made Renault cars are made to last – as tough as any 4×4 I’ve ever had!  I guess it’s no more weight than a few hefty adult passengers, but still beats a tractor for this annual chore.

This post and your olive tree pruning post reminded me of us. We used our Honda CRV to haul a rick of wood (more than once) and it worked well. Who says you have to have a truck! Nice creative use of your car. Love it.

  3. Great use of a car! What sort of fertiliser is it Spike?

Excellent! I had an old Buick LeSabre I used like a truck for a few years, not just hauling stuff inside but carrying around lawn mowers and string trimmers to take care of some rental properties, tying things to the roof when necessary, whatever it took. It had once been the upstanding family sedan, leather seats even, but it got to the point where it ended up as the last vehicle in the driveway and beating it saved wear and tear on the child-hauling mini-van and gave me a year not to replace a truck that had died via fire.

Nothing like a classical and reliable piece of equipment. I’m on year 14 of my travel roll-on. I’m thinking to have a ceremony and bury it in the yard when it finally goes, rather than tossing it unceremoniously in the trash.
