My Logging Truck

Having pruned a number of the olive trees for regeneration, and lopped a few branches from wild Bay trees, the last job is to collect up all the wood. By hand it would take some serious time and effort, with up to 200 metres over rocky orchard to negotiate, let alone the sheer weight and volume of the wood itself.

So out comes Ellie, my trusty old tractor, otherwise known as a 1988 Renault 11. After walking each route first off to remove the largest of rocks, off we go 🙂

This was one of three areas I had accumulated the wood. As I said, to try this by hand would be comical at best, bordering on stoopid!

It’s amazing how much you can get in through the rear hatchback door though – probably 300 kilos plus I would guess (660 lbs)

Just room left for me to squeeze back in 🙂

Took a few trips for each area, with various turns to negotiate across the orchards, never a straight path of course, but it’s quite an efficient method really.

I’ve been doing the same thing on my farm here in New Zealand at the moment – pruning all the trees and collecting the prunings to store for next year’s winter. It’ll all be good burning by then!

  5. Reminds me of the time husband and I brought a king size mattress home from IKEA tied to the top of out little four door Chevy Nova. Drove it down the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The toll taker guy had to reach under the mattress to get out toll fare. We pretty much looked like a gigantic mushroom going down the road, I think. Cops were fine with it, and the college kids thought it was a blast. We try to please…

Looks like hard work! How long did it take you and Ellie to complete this task? I will never complain again when I have to go out and load my small wheelbarrow with logs for the fire! 😉
