Happy Pi Day
12Saturday 14 March, 2015 by Uncle Spike
Having a short nerd in the house is comical at times. Earlier this week he drew the symbol for infinity (∞), but was unsure of its meaning. As I attempted to explain the dynamics of infinitesimal distance to a seven year old, I opted for an easier route and asked him to imagine a number that had no end; one that just went on and on and on…
“That’s easy”, he replied, “It’s Pi, isn’t it Daddy?”
So for all the mathematicians out there, old or young, big or small, nerdy or normal, here’s wishing all a very Happy Pi Day 2015.
.
I remember when my own First Born short nerd, aged 5, asked me “Mum? What’s the ending number?”
It took a while for me to work out what he meant … Not being mathematically minded At All I struggled for an answer, then decided on “infinity”. That of course created a whole lot more questions and a lot more struggling on my part!

Less than two hours to the Pi moment of the century here in my time zone! Oh the celebration! Confetti, fireworks, champagne, a kiss… oops, er, ah, I was confused… I’m thinking of New Years Eve!

Great! Appropriate homage has been paid to ‘it’ on BBC R4 this morning. Love a dose or two or nerdiness!

Good one Spike Junior! And a good way of explaining infinity Uncle Spike. Other ways are just too scary.
