Mentioned in [blogging] dispatches…

A soldier mentioned in despatches (or dispatches) (MiD) is one whose name appears in an official report written by a superior officer and sent to the high command, in which is described the soldier’s gallant or meritorious action in the face of the enemy.

No, I’m definitely not some brave soldier about to be decorated or anything as glamorous, however today I was surprised to find that I was ‘mentioned in dispatches’, well, in blogging terms anyway!

You may be aware that I’m not into the blogging awards, and that’s for a number of reasons. Each to their own, but suffice it say, they are not for me – hence my ‘awards page‘ is not a collection of badges.

But to my surprise, I received a message from someone I hadn’t heard from before; you know, one of the comments that required my ‘approval’. It was from a blogger named Janice from Reflections, who had just hosted a guest blogger, and that guest writer was no less than Linda (one of Spikey’s) from the blog Laughing Through Life. The upshot was that my larger than life luggoles (ears) were starting to burn, and here’s the reason why…

“…Another word of advice: post frequently. To be honest, I don’t do that because life keeps getting in the way. But take a look at Uncle Spike’s Adventures. Somehow this guy manages to post gorgeous images, share his story and still be a farmer, daddy and husband. He is what I aspire to be as a blogger…”

Now to me, THAT beats awards hands down, to have unsolicited praise posted elsewhere, where I may not have even seen it…. There were no strings attached, it wasn’t part of a chain-post pseudo-award, just someone writing elsewhere.

I’m a little embarrassed to be honest, but needless to say, it’s absolutely made my day.

HAPPY SPIKE

Well done! I am similarly impressed by how you are usually one of the first people to ‘like’ my posts. I suspect that you are one of those super-people that manage to fit about twice as much into a day as us mere mortals.
