Backstreets of Bodrum

Saturday 24 January, 2015 by Uncle Spike

Still in Bodrum, the weekend adventure continued…

After a mooch around the boatyard, marina, call it what you will, it was time to head to the backstreet’s. But before I left, one last shot of the castle…

…and some rather strange whale graffiti found on the inner wall of the harbour!

Wandering the backstreet’s of any town is ‘my thing’. Primarily it’s coz I’m a nosy old bugger, but it’s also back there that you start to see the real way a town exists, without all the sanitised trappings laid out for the visitors that adorn the ‘public view’ of the town.

Little alleyways – where do they go? I’m always coming across dead-ends, or wandering into someone’s back yard as it looked like a possible thoroughfare, but turned out not to be. I do this in cars too by the way 🙂

I love to find the back street mosques, hidden among the old roads.

Just like our Bonzo, the Kangal breed, or diluted versions thereof, can be found in most Turkish towns. As with pooches the world over, they’ll pose for a snap if you ask nicely.

  1. It’s great to hear you enjoyed your stay in Bodrum (probably better off-season too). Did you visit any other towns in the area?

Looks like an Anatolian Shepherd or mix. They sure a beautiful dogs and originate in Turkey. Excellent guard dogs and herd protectors!

I love the back streets also. Terry and I (if and ever) we travel we wind up taking ”the roads no one else takes”.
