Scenes of Winter
20Saturday 17 January, 2015 by Uncle Spike
Still winter here…. and whilst ours is just a mix of cold and sun, cold nights and regular storms, I’ll agree it’s certainly not very ‘wintry’ compared to the season that many experience (in either hemisphere).
However, it’s not hot and sunny, therefore, the season is a notable difference for those of us living in this part of the world. Personally, I love winter here, and the varied scenery makes up for any minor discomfort due to climatic inclemency 🙂
.
WINTER means low mountain clouds swirling all around, and welly-boots the chosen footwear for the more discerning gentleman, or lady…
.
WINTER means forever changing skies, with some very strange colours and weird cloud formations from dawn till dusk.
.
WINTER means rainfall, lots of it. Rivers flow all day and all night, the constant noise echoing around the hills.
.
WINTER means different challenges, such as navigating floods rather than roads of packed snow or ice. Having a 1988 old Renault with it’s high ground clearance does have its advantages when travelling in areas other than up in the hills 🙂
.
Very nice pictures Spike … but my attention was captured most by the 1988 Renault! THAT is amazing! You’ve talked about your old car, but I don’t recall you ever mentioned the year. It must be a little beast of a tank 🙂

She’s not a bad old thing, almost 200000km now and still hauls olives, wood, manure, kids and the outlaws (not all at the same time)

She’s closing in on 27 years old and has only 200,000 km! That’s impressive. I know people who can do that kind of mileage in a few years … although Canada is a wee bit bigger 😉

And roads probably better too! 🙂 Biggest factor here would be gas prices (worlds highest for many years), and income levels (30% of US)

It sounds like your winters are cery similar to winters im Texas.
And those are lenticular clouds. So called because they are shaped by lenses.

Winter is unique everywhere. Mine close to yours, minus the heavy rain this year. Love the mist photo.

Am a sucker for grey/ Grey and white is my favorite combination. With and addition of the color of dried reeds. If the reeds are moving in the wind, so much the better.

All of these are wonderful shots, but the ‘water’ scene takes first prize simple because it is so simple and unusual and unexpected. I am pinning it on Pinterest under ‘Photography’.

One of 20 shots I took – it was a fun scene to capture in the end.
