A Violin Meets Nigel

Today’s look at “Tunes I Love” shows a rather different side of Spike. I know I throw plenty of music your way under the genre of rock, but I also have an appreciation for classical music too.
Like all of us, music has to be matched to the mood, or sometimes we select our choice of listening in order to foster the mood we desire. Hmm, getting too heavy, ok, leave that train of thought right there, and move on…

Being an amateur rebel for the past five decades, I seem to have a natural affinity with anyone who throws off the rug of normalcy and goes out on a limb to escape the expectations thrust upon us all by society and the, dare I say it, ‘establishment’.
One such fellow rebel, albeit a tad more successful and talented that my good self, is one Mr Kennedy – that’s the cheeky chap from England who gives the violin a good thrashing, not one of the political clan hailing from the north-eastern states of America.
So in a break from my normal offerings…. here is Nigel Kennedy performing a spot of Vivaldi.
I hope you enjoy 🙂

He actually makes it sound more like a fiddle than a violin. (The difference is the arch of the bridge so the strings can be bowed differently. Lots of fiddle players in the Appalachians. Not many violinists.)

Learn something every day… I thought it was just a nickname for a violin. Come to think of it, the sound and speed of a fiddle-player IS quite different. 🙂

I always loved his fake cockney accent – he went to a top notch posh school with elocution instruction 🙂
