We love cucumbers…
Eat then 365 days a year here in Turkey
part of our national diet I guess you could say.
.
I always like to grow them in the garden
Can’t beat the ultra-fresh taste of home-grown.

But they are notorious attacks by for red spider and /or mildew.

No sandwich is complete without cucumber. It’s also yummy chopped up in yoghurt as a mouth-cooler when eating spicy food.
Some horrid blight got all of our cucumbers, tomatoes, and aubergines this year. Any tips on how to prevent this happening again, would be gratefully received.

Red spider usually wipes out our cucumbers and all toms except for cherry toms. Cucumbers also attract mildew type fungal issues if humid, so I never water them at night with our long hot evenings. I also always try to plant cucmbers away from all other crops; they don’t play well with others!

We eat the slice with a little salt, or in vinegar. Some people get fancy with them. I guess you just eat them sliced.

Me too! I love cucumbers, the Persian ones. I have one, or two (or three!) every morning.

We loved having cucumbers every day in Turkey, especially at breakfast with delicious tomatoes and the white cheese!
