Eva Was My Saviour
23Thursday 07 August, 2014 by Uncle Spike
Like many others, I only became acquainted with the pure gold voice of Eva Cassidy long after she was taken from this world.
Her voice is so special to me, haunting, true, and mesmerising, no matter what track I listen to. As far as Eva being my saviour, well, when I was widowed at 39, her music was virtually the only contact with the human race I could handle for a while. Like she was sent down to help me through perhaps. Still love her music, happy or sad… hope you enjoy this Tune I Love as much as I do.

Wow, you have some catching up to then. One of the purest voices I think I’ve ever heard.

Good to know… Do you ever sing her style of music btw? (or could be persuaded to?)

Yes I do, piano bar setting, but I’ve not had much time for it in the last couple of years so much classical rep to take on in five different languages! I sing songs like Ave Maria, the flower duet and Nella Fantasia at weddings instead 🙂

When my first husband was killed all I had was a little one crying out, not understanding, and when my second left me it was just a fog to find a way through, how I wish I had heard her lovely voice in those days

I was so sorry to read that you were widowed at such a young age. To hear that this music helped you through such sadness warms my heart. I hope life brought you healing and peace.

Wonderful to hear. Time is a great healer if one has the patience for the wound to close.

Uncle Spike, I just gasped when I saw your post. I was introduced to Eva’s music about a year and a half ago, by another vocal artist, Maryann Redmond, who happened to be one of Eva’s friends. There is a video on YouTube of the two of them singing together back in the 90’s. Anyway, Maryann played “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” for me and I was just mesmerized. Amazing to learn the part Eva’s music has played in your life…

There was a national radio DJ in the UK called Terry Wogan who showcased her talent years ago…

Love her stuff – Annie’s Song and Somewhere Over the Rainbow are my two favorites of hers. This is gorgeous. All of her stuff was released after her death for the most part which is when she was truly “discovered”
