So often we are ‘informed’ about events taking place in my part of the world, the Near/Middle East, but from the perspective of some column editor or TV executive with an angle to push on behalf of their funding sources. That’s the way the world works, and most of us manage to suss out which media best suits our own political tastes, but are often still left somewhat uninformed.

If you are looking for some intelligent reading on matters regarding the Near East and Middle East, may I recommend the following blog:

Ottomans and Zionists

Written by a political analyst educated at Harvard and Georgetown, this guy specialises in our region and it’s relation to US foreign policy, and has proven to be a good source of balanced and well researched material, rather than the usual media tripe…

  1. Thank you, Uncle Spike. It is hard, indeed, to get non-biased and honest information about a large region where so much is happening. Thanks again.

Very cool article. Too much about the Middle East, and South Asia is written by people who have never come here

I have found that the mainstream media in NZ has a very heavy British/American slant fed from their media companies. I have found balance from Deutsche Welle and Al Jazeera. Hopefully this gives me a better level of knowledge, & lets me have a more informed opinion. Thank you for this source – I’ll certainly check it out. (getting closer to Eid al Fitr, how are you going?)
