Okra Time!

Summertime is Okra time!
Sometimes known as Ladies Fingers (?), it’s one of the summer veggies that if picked at the right time, is a delight to serve at the dinner table.
This is the Okra story, from breaking ground to harvest.

You should try pickling them, absolutely amazing:)

That is one vegetable I’ve never been able to acquire a taste for … shame, I like just about everything else. Maybe it’s because I’ve only ever had it overcooked. Yuck.

I LOVE fried okra! I learned to make it at an early age because my mom couldn’t stand the smell of it, but me and my dad love it.

I loved Okra. It’s also known as Okra here in the Philippines. I love it when it’s mixed in fish soup or mixed veggies with soy sauce.:D

Ladies fingers is the name by which We in India would call this. Unfortunately, We in India have not reached the stage of eating Salads. Almost all our food is cooked. I suppose that is Why Most Indians are short, well, not upto the mark in Stamina, anyway.

I used to eat okra when we lived abroad a long time ago. Can’t remember which country now. Could it have been Libya? If I remember rightly it is rather slimy. I bet it wasn’t as fresh as yours though.

If it is overcooked it can be slimy. Also, we cook them whole, ensuring that the case is not pierced, as that makes the whole dish slimy.

Interesting. Do you cook them on own or in dishes.
