Where are you darling?

Sunday 29 June, 2014 by Uncle Spike

One year ago, the LGBT Pride March in Istanbul was as controversial as ever. Our conservative quasi-religious government struggle immensely with this, especially considering they have even object to pregnant women being seen ‘outside’ as it tells all about ‘what happened’ – WTF, eh?

Anyway, we had steps rainbow painted for the march… and promptly repainted by the municipality and then this, the theme to the march…

Which translates to “Where are you darling?”, and in response, everyone would shout back “Here I am darling!”  It became part the light-hearted social media banter across Turkey, a much-needed respite from our political and socio-economic woes of a year ago, that still continue to this day.

And in our house, you only have to say “Nerdesin Aşkım?”, and Cousin Spike Jnr pipes up “Burdayım Aşkım!” 🙂

This is controversial anywhere… Even some of my friends, wich are gay, don’t like to be associated with such extremist.

Great to read this post after just coming back from the World Pride parade in downtown Toronto. Wow! Talk about amazing energy and happy people!! Whenever people get together to celebrate diversity and oneness, it is a good thing!
