Ramadan Countdown…

In just another 10 days it will be the holy month of Ramadan, or Ramazan as we know it in Türkiye.
When I say ‘countdown’, I refer to the preparations around the farm I need to attend to, in order to make fasting safely achievable 🙂 Basically my chores list needs attending to in earnest as, once fasting begins, there’s not a hope in the world that I’ll keep up with things. I’m good, but not that good, lol…
The delights include cleaning out the chicken houses; a joyous and wonderful experience not to be sniffed at – in fact, forget sniffing, breathing is not so pleasant either, but hey ho, better than trying to do it during the fast. If I don’t, as it’s right into summer now, you can guarantee the chickens will get a mite or scab attack, and then I’m scrabbling about after them in the baking sun, trying to dose them with powder, and then disinfecting the chook-houses. Yes, best done now me thinks, one done already, maybe the other tomorrow…

The veggies and plants are more or less up together. All the plants and veg are well-established for summer, so watering is my only concern during Ramadan. Next week, as near to the 28th as poss, I will need to spend a few hours out there, just digging around everything and making ‘water moats’ around everything in order to facilitate easy watering. It’s 39 this week, or 102 is old money, and unlikely to go down until September; in fact, it’s about to heat up proper in a couple of weeks 🙂

The fruit orchards are almost up together. The grass and weeds are growing again, but not out of control, and the heat will kill off most now. The drip-watering pipes are 70% down. I just need to finish off laying the 5000 metres (5420 yards) of pipes, clean and test the big artesian pump, change any defect connections or see to any pipe bursts, clean through all the pipes and that’ll be that lot done too. Flicking the night clock timer on/off should do the rest after that.

Good Luck, Uncle Spikes.. I started to fast in Ramadan since I was 5 years old. And thanks, God, until now, I always make it without difficulty..
Fortunately, I’m living in equator and tropical countries, where there is no summer or winter during the year. The sun goes down and up regularly in the same time. But last year, I was in Dubai for couple of days during Ramadan. The sun went up on 5.30 am and went down on 08.00 pm. During the day, it was 45 degree Celcius. I can imagine what you’re going to face in Turkey for this Ramadan. On my first day in Dubai, I broke my fast in the middle of the day. But, the 2nd, 3rd and so on, I made it. You must be given so much strength to fast during Summer.

Thank you very much, that is so kind. Yes, with some strength from the big man upstairs, and a dash of old stubbornness, we’ll be fine. It’s been very hot and long days for the past 3-4 years, so no fear 🙂

Some of my closest friends are from Turkey and they also observe Ramadan. I honestly do not know how they get through the day without anything. With you having chores to do on top of nothing to eat or drink makes it unthinkable.

Ab challenge. I had to dump all the rest days to get completed before Ramadan (no way I’mö doing 500 reps with no brekky/water to follow). Up to day 25 tomorrow (19th exercise day in a row). Now totalled 3742 reps, with 2324 to do in the next 5 days – eek…

Hehe yes… Here summer has started in earnest. Temps not too silly yet, but reached 40 today, and is still 34 now at 10pm… so yes, watering is an art form to keep stuff alive 🙂

Yep. No food, water, chewy, smoking… nothing but air should pass ones lips. Just mind over matter 🙂

Then you can eat as much as you want until sun up? Or are you exhausted and just fall down and sleep?

Hehe, some folk gorge like mad and suffer all day. Some I think stay purposefully overweight, become mildly diabetic and therefore don’t fast. For me, it’s moderation and science – I will write about that next week 🙂
