Weekly Photo Challenge: On the Move (I)
43Friday 09 May, 2014 by Uncle Spike
This week’s first entry from me for the Weekly Photo Challenge is a traditional game played as part of a folk festival in Mexico City. The players start out at the top of this huge pole, and then swing out in unison, tied upside down with ropes, going around and around at quite some speed… fascinating to watch! Here are three images so you get the idea 🙂
Hope you enjoy this entry.

Well even though your photos definitely suited the theme of movement I can confirm without a doubt that such an activity is not for me. Way too faint of heart to climb up the pole in the first place, far less through myself off (and willingly at that)! But, one question: what’s the game exactly? Don’t think you fully explaind but thanks for sharing 🙂

Its not a game I suppose, bad explanation on my part, more of a display at a traditional folk festival 🙂

I saw this in Mexico City in 1993, it is called Danza de los Voladores (Dance of the Flyers). sunofmexico.com has an explanation of what the dance means.

Could they in theory knock their heads together mid flight, or worse?
