Them Beans Be Broad!

Saturday 05 April, 2014 by Uncle Spike

Broad Beans are boring… (or so I thought). Little did I know as a whinging kid back in the UK that one day I’d grow up to be an old geezer who loved growing and scoffing Broad Beans!!

I plant a fairly big patch every year, but don’t get a great deal of produce as we never use sprays. But we get enough 🙂

These small/young pods are so tender that we eat the lot. They steam very easily and are absolutely delicious served with fresh dill.

The rest are left to grow to full sized pods.

We usually get enough to freeze down quite a few bags of them, once blanched. They taste very good, even from frozen – use the small ones in omletes – sounds bizarre, but scrumptious!

Seems not that long ago I planted the seeds and saw these first signs of life.

Are broad beans the same as fava beans? It appears that you have very good luck growing them.
