Yeni Dunya

Wednesday 02 April, 2014 by Uncle Spike

That means ‘New World’ in Turkish, and is the name given to the fruit tree pictured below. I think it is more widely known as Loquat, or Maltese/Japanese/Chinese plum

This is the the first year we’ll have some fruit by the looks of it!

This is a shot from Wikipedia to show how they might turn out. Inside they have 2 large stones, but quite a nice fleshy sweetish fruit. To be honest, here they are more oval shaped and not as round or clean looking as these, but don’t care, home grown grub beats all 🙂

Ah, I think we had these in Florida when I was a kid. We never knew if they were edible or not, though! Too bad, I wish I had tried some.
    Thanks for the pics!

So that is what’s gonna be the fruits? Not flower buds?
The fruits look really delicious, but round like this they almost looks like apricots. I’m more used to oval plums. They are more common here.
But some 20 years ago or so, or more, I lived in a house with a garden and there was a plum tree of a very old species (species?). The fruits were quite small, round, dark blue almost black and tasted very good. At least in my memory they tasted good. 😉

Wonderful pictures! Now I began long for another life again… :p
