Who’s Yella Right Now?

Thursday 20 March, 2014 by Uncle Spike

Answer: we are. Yella, or yellow that is.

It’s almost the beginning of April, and that means one thing, it’s pollen time!

Surrounded by pine forest covered mountains, everywhere turns into a yellow dust bowl for a month. Basically, the pine trees are now jam packed full of yellow pollen, and if you look up at the right moment, you can see vast yellow clouds move across the mountainside. It’s very hard to envisage, and my camera cannot do it justice one bit, but you might notice a yellow haze in the upper half of this image.

Obviously cars get a good dusting, as does everything else, balconies included. The image below shows just the start of it; with yellow dust filling the grout ruts between the tiles. It’ll get much worse in a couple of weeks time, when you can literally sweep the stuff into small piles!

This is the top of the deep freeze that I store clementine and orange juice in.

And this is the woodshed roof. It is normally a deep shade of red, but you can already see a yellowness about it.

Give it another 4 weeks and we’ll be clear. Then I’ll wash the outside of the house, from the roof, to the walls, balconies and finally windows. Then at last the washing can hang outside once again 🙂 I’m just thankful we are not hay-fever sufferers!

  1. Pollen season has also started in California and for the people who have allergies it’s bad, like you say. But this is nature’s call and we just need to be patient. Take care.
