Guess What’s Arrived?

When I was widowed, I sold up, emigrated and started over. I sold my car, cottage and even my beloved motorbike and that was that. All I had left was what I could stuff in two suitcase.

All the furniture and appliances were given away to friends, and all the rest of the stuff, from clothes to trinkets, cutlery to bedclothes were given to charity. People had been good to us over the years, so it was time to return some of that help to others who were in more need than I.

I wasn’t even 40 at the time, so starting a complete new chapter, for me, was the right thing to do I felt. Looking back, I still agree.

My ‘bestist friend’, known as Uncle Baldrick to our kid, stored a few things at his house that had escaped the ‘giveaway’, and over the years, he’s brought all sorts of stuff over as/when he visits. Some of the more bizarre things he’s brought over have been quite comical.

For instance, one year he brought over a Karcher Power Washer in his backpack!! I had only used it a couple of times before my late wife become sick, so it was one of those few things that didn’t get given away.

He even came over once wearing my full bike leathers (lol). They were too heavy to pack, so he wore them on the plane 🙂 Then there was the large cake and food mixer and even a bicycle for kiddo!

Another year it was my old ceramic tiling tools and painting gear. Then another time it was a 230mm (9″) very heavy duty angle grinder (metal/stone cutter) that weighed 7kg (15lb)!

As far as personal belongings, I had just a few bits that came with me, but that was it. Until now…

Last night Uncle Baldrick returned, complete with 43kg (95lbs) of luggage!! What did he bring? Well, how about a heavy duty garden fork, various cooking spices and foodstuffs we cannot buy here but good old Amazon online shopping can deliver to his door, some 2nd hand lego for Cousin Spike Jnr, sunglasses, muesli to name but a few…

And how about this… a 20kg (44lb) box of assorted photographs from the mid 1980’s through to the early 2000’s. Hoorah!! What this means is that I have finally been reunited with my travel photos, and even a few of my ‘youth’ (lol).

I now have many many hours to spend with our old 3-in-1 printer/scanner thingy, but over the coming months, I’ll be finally be able to do the blogging I have been longing to do 🙂
