Guest Bloggers & Uncle Spike
18Monday 23 December, 2013 by Uncle Spike
A couple of months ago I was scratching around the area where my bald patch will no doubt appear one day; perusing a few thoughts about where my blog was headed, and what changes, if any, seemed in order.
One of the ensuing changes was the introduction of a regular ‘guest blogger‘ spot; just twice a month, on a Sunday morning. All I do is to invite someone special to share a post with us about some subject that has come to roost between the ears of Uncle Spike. Something different for us all to read over our Sunday cup of tea, mug of coffee, jug of beer (select as appropriate).
.
.
Who do I select? Well, here is no science applied here, just a two criteria.
The first being that the blogger should be someone I follow, and whose work I always enjoy, respect, and that I find entertaining and informative.
The second criteria is to select from the pool of active followers of this bog. Yes, there are of course many loyal followers who are silent but regular readers of our blogs, but when the same few guys and gals always comment and interact following my postings, it started to seem that my ‘guests’ should be selected from this merry bunch of Spikey’s.
.
.
So how was it for you…?
I’ve have had the pleasure to introduce four guests bloggers so far on Uncle Spike’s Adventures, and there are more in the pipeline, including a special on the New Year coming up next Sunday. Anyway, these were the first four :-
.
“So, Where Else?” – by Andrew Petcher
“A Nice Cuppa!” – by Carol a.k.a. WhichWayNow101
“Making Music, Literally” – by Joe Giordano
“Back In The USSR” – by Evelyne Holingue
.
These guest posts are there for your entertainment and to help alleviate the effects of ‘Uncle Spike Syndrome’ – an overdose of my warblings. So, what do you think?
Is it a good feature?
Do you want to see more?
Any thoughts on subjects you’d like covered?
Even… any special requests?
.
As always, your comments and thoughts would be appreciated, either from the usual ‘comments’ feature below, or via email.
Many thanks for your continued support. And for those of you who are celebrating Christmas this week, have a great holiday.

There was no way I could say no to your invitation. Your posts are a lovely mix of beautiful pictures (I’m not a great photographer), of glimpses on foreign lands (I wish I could travel more), of humor (we all should laugh more), and of so many more little things that make life so worth of being lived.
I wish you and your family and all the Spikeys across the world a peaceful and joyful end of the year.

That just about sums it all up – thanks Evelyne 🙂

Yes it’s a good idea as it opens our eyes to bloggers we might not know and it gives you a little rest!

Actually it takes much more time in fact, with detailed invite mails, getting agreements, to/fro correspondence, formatting and uploading, bio arrangements, titles etc…
BUT, I love doing them – feels like ‘payback’ to those who support me I guess 🙂

A really good idea Spike, I like it! 🙂 I think guest bloggers will allow us to meet and greet some fellow Spikeys and see them in action without travelling further than our familiar Uncle Spike’s Adventures’ blog! Have a Merry Christmas Uncle Spike, and a happy new year! 🙂

I like the guest blogger spot – it has introduced me to blogs I didn’t know about. I enjoy what you write which makes it quite understandable that I enjoy what you read.

Yes, I (obviously) like what I write… so in turn blogs I like to follow should also be of interest to my followers (that’s the idea anyway)

Great idea, Uncle Spike! Having guest bloggers who are on the same page with a slightly different frequency makes life that much more interesting! Also, if they’re just building their audience, you’re giving them a little help. Win-Win I say!
Have yourself a Merry Christmas!! 🙂

I agree. I try to select a varied bunch too. Newbies and experienced bloggers… as long as they have something to say, eh?

I enjoy them! It also gives me someone new and entertaining to follow 🙂

Seriously; good to have feedback from established bloggers.

Obviously being one of your guest photo bloggers I am a little partial to this subject but I really do think it’s an excellent idea. I have enjoyed the other guest bloggers that you have given the opportunity to showcase their work (I really can’t write to save my life but thats why you had me do a guest post as a photo blogger, LOL). So my vote is in and I would like to see more. Have a wonderful Christmas Spike 😀
