Let there be light…! Well, for this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge I have selected an image which captures this theme.
It is a scene from an Ottoman medical centre in Edirne, Turkey that remained in operation for four hundred years, from the 15th to 19th centuries. The premises have since been turned into the Bayezid II Külliye Health Museum.
It was especially of significance for treating mental illnesses using music, water sounds and scents – which was quite advanced and unique in its day. This depicts a patient with delusional psychosis standing there with his prayer beads in one hand, professing his thoughts and beliefs to the world…
This image was taken in 2006 by Aunty Spike when on a business visit to that area at the north of our country.
