Ahh… The History Behind His Artwork

After scribing that recent post about Cousin Spike Jnr and his latest hobby, art, entitled: Quite The Budding Artist, we senior Spikes got to head scratching about this latest development.

First and foremost, we guess that he takes after his great granddaddy on Aunty Spikes side, a ‘proper artist’ who migrated to Turkey from Bitola in Macedonia in the late 1920’s (so just after the establishment of the modern Republic of Turkey). He was what you might term a ‘real artist’, a flamboyant character by all accounts, with a mastery of some 5-6 languages and who made his living as a photographer as well as an artist.

Or another possibility for his love of freestyle drawing could perhaps be from Granny Spike (my mom), who was handy with a paint brush in her younger years. Even now, at almost 80, she’s happiest knocking out the odd drawing when playing alongside her grandson.

After watching X-Factor Australia while she was staying here earlier this year, she did a quick sketch of Redfoo, the loveable American judge and mentor. You probably know him for his fame as the lead singer of LMFAO, and son of the legendary Motown Record Company founder, Berry Gordy, Jr. 🙂
