Rain Rejuvenates The Garden
13Sunday 24 November, 2013 by Uncle Spike
We love the extremes of weather here in south-west Turkey. Whilst we don’t go in for the cold stuff of ice and snow, we have two main weather themes here… that of extreme heat and extreme rain.
In the summer, which lasts from May till October, we consistently see temperatures well over 30 (86 F) and up to 45 (113 F) for July and August.
In winter we get rain; and lots of the stuff. Mostly it’s confined to weekly monstrous electrical storms – the joys of living around the mountains. It has it’s ups and downs, such as today having our internet restored after an 8 day outage, and last year the water was off for 6 weeks.
But these past couple of days has seen some lighter but persistent rain which has really kicked the garden back into colour after the ‘browness’ of a hot baked summer.

Love the vibrant pictures of your garden! No water for 6 weeks! That must have been TOUGH.

Not really a problem. We can buy large bottles of clean water for drinking and cooking, and I pumped up river water from 121m below us using the artesian pump, and filled numerous 5L plastic bottles for manual flushing of toilets. There’s always a way…

Even though we’re relatively close to you, our rainfall is much less in winter. So when it rains we do a little rain dance to celebrate!
