Respect : Remembrance Sunday

Sunday 10 November, 2013 by Uncle Spike

Lest We Forget

In countries of the Commonwealth, today is known as Remembrance Sunday, with November 11th being the anniversary of the signing of the armistice of World War 1 (known as Armistice Day).

“eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”

In memory of all the men and women, from all sides,
who gave their lives for the rest of us.

I just hope people take a moment to remember your sacrifice.

Thank you for reblogging this. Our veterans deserve every recognition. Over here, we’ll honor them this Tuesday, 11/11, on Veterans Day. I suspect that I will keep this beautiful picture in mind on that day.

Reblogged this on Uncle Spike's Adventures and commented:

To be honest, when I sat down to write a post for today, I found myself wanting to write exactly the same as I did last year. I also only just one photo from my days in the UK which I believe serves as a powerful reminder of the reason many countries mark this day. So, forgive me whilst I reblog this post about respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom of the fellow countrymen.

Be safe wherever you are. This world is still a dangerous place.

In the U.S. tomorrow is Vetran’s Day. One of my best friends throughout high school (king of our prom – not just totally handsome, but very kind and nice) was a Green Beret. Killed in action four years after graduation.

I took the Service this morning and my Address was on Armistice Day, Past:Present: Future. The theme being on Sacrifice. Ministers give Sermons, I am not a minister. At the conclusion of the Service I recited the Ode and the congregation held a minute’s silence. Lest we Forget.
