Republic Day – Türkiye (II)

>> CONTINUED FROM PART 1 <<

Today marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.

In each town across this vast country, you’ll find celebrations being held today with all the local schools participating together, attended by the local mayor, local heads of the armed forces, police and the town governor.

Here are a few photos to show you our side of the world. I always try to keep both politics and religion away from my blog, but I have tried to show a true representation of modern Turkey, and the dichotomy that exists between the face of modern cosmopolitan society and the more conservative traditional side.

Hi there, really nice pictures. Also loved the secular – religious contrast, and the acceptance of the two together, shown best by the two school teachers photo I think. Great blog!

It is very striking how relaxed and happy the people are – they want to be rather than have to be there. The photographs were excellent and I liked the contrtast between the religious and the secular. We have “Australia Day ” to celebrate the landing of the First Fleet in 1788 – a day in which part of the population celebrate, part of the population refuse to recognise it and part of the Population want to change he name to “Citizen’s Day” .
