10,000… You’re Kidding Me..!

Tuesday 15 October, 2013 by Uncle Spike

As I find myself wandering that bumpy road called “Life’s journey”, I am often reminded how lucky I am; how fortunate I have been.

Sure, if you look at the facts and figures, it’s not been the easiest path I’ve trodden, there have been perhaps more than a fair share of challenges along the way, but all things considered, life has been pretty darned good to Uncle Spike.

I have been amazed by many things I have seen along the way, which in some way has gone towards balancing out the horrors of ugly raw life I have also had the misfortune to come across. I have also been inspired by a few great people; those I have been fortunate to have known who make their own mark as they travel their own particular journey.

What follows are a few things that have amazed Uncle Spike, and that are worthy of sharing with my fellow bloggers and bloggees:-

The awesome power of nature

The sheer beauty of our planet

The wonder of humanity

And then there is that enigma called WordPress

Just 16 weeks or so ago, I decided it was high time to, well to coin a phrase, to start writing my memoirs. Now, I’m no budding book novelist and I’m certainly not some famous politician who was carpet-bagged from public life with great yarns of political intrigue to share. No, it was my dear wife, one of my better and most honest of critics, who encouraged, cajoled and kick-started me into writing this blog. Now when I say she is my top critic, I am by no means trying to discredit the senior members of my advisory board; those being Bonzo the farm dog, and Nigel and Fluffy-Bum, two of our brood of scorpion-chomping chooks who regularly steer me on to the right path when I seek out their advice on all matters of life. Anyway, Aunty Spike, a.k.a. my wife, suggested a bit of blogging as a medium perhaps more suited to the sharing of my warbles about life than abusing Facebook, as I was prone to doing, with reams of stuff all about nothing much in particular.

And so that’s how it all started. Uncle Spikes Adventures was born, or at least, an account was opened and I then started to tap away at my old laptop’s keyboard, with it’s missing ‘E’ button and host of other ‘features’, during my non-working hours. With farming chores being somewhat minimal during our prolonged southern Turkish hot summer, I had some time at least to get this blog up and running. I knew my wife, my dog and my mum would read it, sure, but I had no idea really if anyone else would be in the least bit interested in what I had to say, that what I thought about was even worth sharing, or if my ever so slightly warped view of life was even palatable to a wider audience than my chickens and my trees (who, by the way, are very good listeners – Prince Charles was right on that score at least!).

So that brings me to my final example of what amazes me… the support I’ve found from the readers and blog followers here on WordPress. As of a short time ago, Uncle Spikes Adventures hit a rather astonishing new height of dizziness…

Yep, how about that… over 10000 HITS !

From readers in 66 countries !

And what can only be described as a small hoard of 301 followers !

To be rewarded with stats like these after just four short months is testament to you guys for your support, feedback, and advice. There are also a few followers who have spent time to help me shape and improve this blog – to you I can only say those two rather small words, THANK YOU.

But what has amazed me even more, is the sheer volume of quality blogs out there – that really surprised me. I also follow quite a raft of blogs myself that continually make my daily ‘Reader’ perusal quite an inspirational journey all of it’s own. So another THANK YOU to all you bloggers out there who really show me how it should be done.

Best go now and make a nice cuppa for Aunty Spike and perhaps dig out a nice biscuit for Bonzo…

Does 10,000 smackers sound better than hits ? You were my first follower when I started a month ago and feel I have been in the front seat watching your journey. Thanks for the ride, and your kind advice. You know you are flying ……:) Best wishes and all that. Where do you get those yellow smileys from by the way?

Deserves being said again: 10000, you’re kidding me! I’ve been slowly accelerating for 3 months on this blog and just celebrated 50 posts–90+ followers, and 340+ views. 10,000? Well, damn.

Seriously, way to go. I’ve enjoyed your blog. You’ve earned your success.

      Thanks for that 🙂
My blog struggled for a fair while; took me a while to find my feet, see what folk wanted, but more importantly what I wanted to say/do. I learned some tricks or best practise ideas along the way which have helped too I guess. Let’s see how it lasts though, lol.

Thank you for the beautiful things you shared through photos. I also love the WP related photos and the manner you used them to tell the story – the magic WP, the Ta-daaa moment and the hits, quite effective 😀

I think having a blog that comes out of your heart is much more fulfilling than FB or Twitter, the feelings and the connections they bring or appear to maintain are so empty and devoid of any value.

I love the way you write, keep it up!

  11. Congratulations, well done. Thanks for the Like on my blog.

  12. Danielle says:

    Congrats on 10,000 hits!
